While searching for new Sponsor Pins, some questions remained unanswered.
Greetings, everyone. I've been grappling with an issue for quite some time now, and despite hoping it would diminish, it seems to be intensifying. My research across various platforms, including eBay, Etsy, Mercari, and others, has revealed that the pricing for pins related to the upcoming Paris Games is skyrocketing to exorbitant levels on these sites.
While I recognize the principles of free enterprise and the right to profit, mark-ups reaching 2000% seem excessive and warrant discussion. During the game, and after the games it’s what the market can bear, this I understand fully. Our website's mission statement commits to fostering a vibrant community of enthusiasts, celebrating the rich history and cultural significance of Olympic Games sponsorships, and providing a space for collectors to share their passion and stories.
It's commendable that some collectors offer their surplus pins at modest mark-ups. However, it appears that others may be reselling their extras to fund their trips to the games or related events. I've always valued and thanked those who contribute to the hobby by sharing at fair prices, with the aim of nurturing growth. The challenge lies in expanding the hobby and retaining collector interest, which tends to peak during Olympic years and then wane.
My plan, in collaboration with the sponsors I've engaged with, is to propose that any leftover pins or collectibles be donated to our website or offered on consignment post-Games, to benefit the wider collector community. What I am proposing to do is to offer these items with a limit of two per address. This is in respect to the best ever saying in this hobby, "One to keep, and one to trade". The purpose of this initiative is part of my ongoing effort to share with the rest of the community. And I do realize that I may lose friends because of this, I believe that the growth of the hobby should be first and of the foremost concern to allow this hobby we all share a passion for to continue to grow and prosper. As always, I welcome your thoughts and concerns.
